ready to go now, I undid the bolts on the support bar but left it attached as it's useful to grab onto if the engine gets a bit wobbly...
Engine dropped (pointer: don't forget to undo the heater cables ...oops...). I found I could rest the heat exchangers on two bricks and 'just' get the jack out (if i tipped the engine)

Then, after you check the engine will fit through the gap (luckily mine would :) ) all you need to do is push the van away.
